Vocalist Valentin Lakodin

A corporate evening is going well until someone suggests "putting on some jazz as background." After that, either the guests stop talking and start listening, or the host hurriedly looks for something to fill the gap before the banquet. With Valentin Lakodin's soul-jazz trio, the second scenario is unlikely.

Valentin is a vocalist and double bass player, a participant in the shows "The Voice," "You Are a Star," and "Voice of Petrojazz," and a laureate of Russian and European festivals. He leads his own jazz project Cigar Hall. The sound is based on jazz and blues mixed with soul-funk: from traditional swing to modern grooves in his own arrangements. The repertoire includes Ray Charles, Nat King Cole, Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Prince, and original compositions.

On stage it looks like this: the double bass sets the low end, the vocals carry the melody, familiar tunes sound recognizable but not like background from speakers — with live delivery and arrangements written for the lineup. The trio fits easily into a banquet hall or an intimate presentation space, not overpowering conversations where background is needed and coming to the fore when the program begins.
