Host Yuri Makarov

Gathering in one hall those who have been arguing in work chats all year and making sure that by the end of the evening they are taking photos together is not about a microphone or a template script. Most often, a corporate event falls apart in the first twenty minutes: top management by the window, sales department at the bar, the rest on their phones. Then everything depends on who is on stage.

Yuri Makarov is a Moscow-based event host performing under the pseudonym Smileman. His portfolio includes corporate events, conferences, and off-site team building, including an unconventional format — team activities at an ice rink. That means he can work with a business audience that needs a composed tone, and with a team that's been taken to the ice and needs something to do before everyone freezes.

The difference with such a host is that he commands both the stage and the space around it. At a conference, it's restrained moderation of segments without unnecessary comic interludes; at a corporate event, it's engaging people in what's happening without a forced 'now everyone stand in a circle.' The ice rink format shows the main thing: he's not afraid of venues where the usual 'stage plus microphone' scheme doesn't work, and he can build a program for a specific location.
