From luxurious gold to cacti and graffiti: what event designers surprise with in 2019

Event design is not just filling the venue with decor in a certain style. For event organizers, it is the embodiment of a specific idea closely related to the concept. photo zoneIt is an opportunity to showcase the individuality of a company or brand. In addition, it is necessary to surprise guests, impress them, "hook" them with an original idea. The event agency "Aventura" will tell you about the latest trends in event design, what kind of decoration surprises organizers of major events and shows.

At the peak of popularity

Current trends that help create fashionable and captivating event design:

  • Immersiveness. Creating a special atmosphere for the event, a live spectacle with 360-degree immersion. Implementing this idea is possible with technical equipment, for example, augmented or virtual reality. Involving every guest who becomes part of the whole presentation.

Virtual Reality

  • Lighting. This is a crucial design tool, regardless of the event's theme and scale. Well-chosen and organized lighting equipment allows for highlighting key elements, influencing the audience's mood, and creating the necessary atmosphere. The boundless possibilities of laser technology and 3D mapping expand the boundaries of visibility and create a new reality.

  • Anti-template" approach. Striving to make the event unique, creating a distinctive atmosphere unlike anything else. All heroes, participants, and guests of the event become part of a unique story where the decor and action unfold in a specific style here and now.

  • Utilizing the venue's atmosphere. The event location can set the tone for the entire event scenario. It's important to carefully consider possible options in advance and explore the potential of the venue. A beach by the ocean, a clearing by a forest lake, a skyscraper rooftop, warehouse space, exhibition center, or a ship's deck – each example immediately sets a certain "vibe." The decorator's task is to channel it in the right direction.

  • Environmental friendliness. Following the trend of nature conservation is especially relevant when organizing an outdoor event. Eco-decor can be manifested in an emphasis on natural materials and textiles, green color, an abundance of plants and greenery.

Eco-friendliness

  • Unusual furniture and interior. These elements become the centerpiece of the decor, its focal point. The decorator is guided by unusual extravagant forms of furniture or exclusive upholstery.

  • Minimalism. The absence of unnecessary details, pomposity, and gaudiness helps to focus on the essence of the event, avoiding visual noise.

Color game

Playing with color is not a new concept in design but remains just as relevant today. Emphasizing a specific tone - bright or, conversely, pastel - allows for harmony in all details, creating a cohesive composition. A popular technique is using color contrast.

For those who find it difficult to find the perfect color solution for their event design, specialists from the American Pantone Color Institute can help. This organization sets the tone for the entire fashion and design industry annually. In 2019, Pantone named "Living Coral" (16-1546) as the color of the year.

Coral color emits natural energy; it is bright and dynamic. Using it in decor will create a powerful color effect. It can be individual decorative items, flowers, textiles, furniture. It is also easy to combine with other colors in this range, creating a real burst of color. At the same time, Living Coral belongs to warm color tones, so such decor will create an atmosphere of comfort and care.

Unusual examples of event design in Russia and the world

  • Creating interactive zones. The 10th online video conference VidCon impressed with a variety of zones, booths, lounges, and halls from global brands like YouTube, Facebook, MTV, Adobe, NBCUniversal. They presented venues in the form of a beach with a huge phone, imitation of a red carpet, real jungles, a fruit stand, a "glamorous room," and more. These zones were not only colorful and unique in design but also had an interactive component for guests to express their creative potential: taking photos and videos, creating news, printing phrases on t-shirts, and even playing virtual basketball.

  • Gold is everywhere. - this trend is gaining momentum among global parties and awards like the Oscars. For example, Turner channel chose lavish decor in golden and emerald tones with luxurious velvet furniture, candles, and interesting chandeliers for its Emmy award party. And Delta Air Lines created a whole installation of hanging gold records for its Grammy party. It was an unusual entrance to the hall and at the same time an original photo zone.

  • Graffiti is not only a mandatory attribute of 90s Hip-Hop culture. It is also an unusual way to decorate an event, creating a specific atmosphere. For example, at the Luminato Arts Festival in Toronto, famous graffiti from the Berlin Wall were recreated on a special block imitating this symbol of the Cold War. Later, participants were offered to break the wall with hammers. Graffiti can decorate not only walls but also decor items and even tableware, as in the Mural Project Richmond graffiti project at the Dining by Design charity exhibition. In addition, graffiti is a convenient method for engaging guests: they can be offered to paint the wall themselves, create a logo, etc.

  • Ceiling decor. Multi-level complex structures in a separate area or around the perimeter are a bright feature of some world-famous parties. For example, at the 20th Golden Globes awards by Warner Bros and InStyle, they emphasized ceiling decorations. Draping in black and white was favorably complemented by gold accents. The centerpiece of the decor was an installation above the bar area in the form of golden globes of different sizes.

  • Bright saturated patterns. They did not hesitate to overdo it with floral motifs at HBO's annual Emmy awards ceremony. And the result was truly impressive. The hall decorators played out the theme of a lush paradise garden by decorating carpets, furniture, textiles, and other interior items with floral patterns.

  • Immersing guests in "residential" apartments – whether it's a living room or library – is another novelty of the season. For example, at Steven Tyler's annual party for Janie's Fund, a separate area was created in the form of a living room with large soft sofas and bookshelves adorned with photographs. The ceiling was adorned with an atmospheric chandelier in a medieval style.

  • Cacti. Designers and decorators from around the world inspired by Coachella's desert theme use such motifs in their work, including cacti. For instance, at ESPY party in one of Los Angeles' hotels, the DJ booth was decorated with real cacti. The social network Instagram was also inspired by Coachella's aesthetics and held Instagram Desert Chill event filled with desert vibes and decorated with cacti – both artificial and live.

Event decoration is not just about decorations and ornaments. Every element of the entire event becomes part of the overall concept. Furniture, tableware, flowers, printed materials, textiles, and even costumes - nothing should disrupt the harmony. Then the unique image of the celebration will be complete and cohesive.
