MarimbaMix Orchestra

Percussion at a corporate event is usually associated with a loud set in the corner of the hall, after which you want to step out into the corridor to talk. The MarimbaMix orchestra breaks that scenario: here the marimba, vibraphone and xylophone take center stage — instruments that sound full but don't drown out conversations and toasts.

The ensemble was formed in 2011 by graduates of the orchestral faculty of the Rimsky-Korsakov Saint Petersburg Conservatory. The leading parts are held by melodic percussion — xylophone, vibraphone, marimba, bass marimba, orchestral bells; they are joined by exotic instruments, strings, winds and piano. The repertoire consists of their own arrangements: from classics and jazz to popular and rock music, plus original compositions.

On stage, it looks like a full-fledged ensemble, not a set of soloists: the arrangements are written for a specific lineup, so a familiar melody is recognized from the first bars but sounds different from the recording. The orchestra performs both instrumental programs and accompaniment for soloists — if vocals are needed at the event, they can be integrated into the set.
