There are only a few days left until the New Year, which means it's time to think about where, with whom, and how to celebrate it. This also applies to corporate events. Which dates are most in demand this year, when to start preparing for the event, which format to choose, and how much will comprehensive event organization cost? These and many other questions concern most companies preparing to celebrate the holiday with a large team. We conducted a large-scale study and are publishing useful New Year statistics based on a survey of more than a thousand St. Petersburg companies, which will help navigate the pre-New Year bustle.Rising fuel and related goods prices, the falling ruble exchange rate, and other economic factors certainly affect the profits and operations of Russian entrepreneurs. Nevertheless, to maintain a friendly and productive atmosphere in the team and to set the stage for future cohesive work, emotional release is necessary, particularly joint recreation and team-building activities. The event agency "Aventura" found that more than half of the surveyed companies plan to celebrate the new 2019 year with colleagues. On average, 40% of companies celebrate a corporate holiday with a group of 40 to 100 people. Slightly fewer, namely 35% of organizations, invite 100-300 people to the event. About 20% - 300-500 employees. And only 5% can afford to organize an event for 500-2500 people.
At the same time, some companies begin preparing for the New Year event as early as June, booking restaurants, concert halls, and even stadiums. According to event specialists at the event agency "Aventura", the optimal time to start preparing for a New Year corporate party is the end of summer — as they say, prepare your New Year corporate party in summer, and summer team building in winter. Moreover, the closer it gets to December, the fewer chances remain to book a suitable venue and professional artists.
Which dates for New Year corporate events are most in demand this year?
According to an analysis by the event agency "Aventura", the "hottest" dates in December are the 14th and 21st of the month. The same forecasts are given by the popular online service for selecting and booking venues in St. Petersburg, "Restogid". About 15% of companies plan their corporate parties for December 15-20, and approximately the same number of companies have booked December 27-28. It is worth noting that the dates December 22-26 are very popular. Knowing these pre-New Year statistics, one can understand on which days one should leave the office early to avoid traffic jams.

And only 6% of companies celebrate the holiday almost a month before the event, namely December 1-13," says the general director of the event agency "Aventura" Mikhail Glushenkov. – "Therefore, if you haven't managed to book the venue you liked and order event organization, you should consider these dates," advises Mikhail. – "By the way, an interesting fact: after studying the market of St. Petersburg enterprises, we noticed that many shopping centers and mobile companies celebrate their New Year corporate parties already in the new year, from January 7 to 25." The most popular format for a New Year corporate party in St. Petersburg remains a banquet with a show program (69%). Some companies choose off-site events out of town or abroad, as well as team building, quests, trips to theaters or concerts. Smaller organizations limit themselves to a buffet in the office or in some loft. The choice of format depends on the goals of the event, budget, and number of people.
– "The number of companies turning to event agencies for event organization is growing every year. This is primarily due to the development of the event industry, as well as the complexity of the event organization process," explains the head of the event agency "Aventura" Mikhail. – "As for budgets, the main trend here is less rosy. Due to the prolonged crisis, many companies are tightening their belts and cutting budgets for internal communications. At best, the budget remains unchanged compared to last year's. There are exceptions: companies that in 2018 have a significant reason for a grand celebration, for example, a company anniversary, such events are celebrated despite all crises."
The majority (34%) of the surveyed companies are ready to allocate for a New Year event in St. Petersburg from 500 to 900 thousand rubles (including the program and banquet). A slightly smaller number of companies (30%) focus on figures within 100-500 thousand rubles. Meanwhile, as many as 23% of companies are willing to spend from 1 to 4 million rubles on comprehensive event organization. And 13% of companies have amounts of 5-10 million rubles and more.
Budgets are formed based on the financial capabilities of organizations and largely depend on the company's level, number of people, chosen venue, and the content of the show program. Thus, it turns out that the average bill per person this year is 3–4 thousand rubles for the banquet and a little more than 4-6 thousand — for the show program, lighting, sound, decor, etc. The average bill for the event is 7–10 thousand rubles per person.
Despite all the difficulties, specialists at the event agency "Aventura", together with colleagues in the event industry, note that the situation with corporate events is expected to be better than last year.
