About the artist

When a pause hangs in the meeting room with the Japanese delegation and the presentation is already open, everything is decided by the person interpreting in those seconds. The tone of the conversation and the outcome of the meeting depend on their accuracy and memory.

Anna Reva is a Japanese interpreter who works in simultaneous mode and in whispering mode. A graduate of the Department of Japanese Philology of the Faculty of Oriental Studies at St. Petersburg State University, she interned at Osaka University of Foreign Studies on a personal grant from the Ministry of Education of Japan and worked at the St. Petersburg representative office of the Japanese government organization JETRO. Experience in interpreting — over 17 years: simultaneous interpreting at Japanese film festivals, receiving delegations, technical written translation, teaching Russian to employees of Japanese automobile companies. She worked as an interpreter for the Governor of St. Petersburg.

On site, she is not immediately heard, and that is the right result: participants stop looking at the interpreter and start talking to each other. Anna keeps terminology, names and figures, does not falter in simultaneous mode, and in whispering mode prompts briefly so that the conversation does not slow down. She also gives original lectures about Japan and teaches Japanese.
