About the artist

A meeting with a foreign partner has been going on for two hours, the speaker is peppering his speech with terminology, and suddenly the interpreter falls silent mid-sentence — and the audience starts exchanging glances. Sound familiar? At business events, the cost of inaccurate interpretation is not the contractor's reputation but a failed deal.

Nikolai Konstantinovich Duplensky is an oral simultaneous interpreter of English. He has been doing simultaneous interpretation since 1989, and oral and written translation since 1980. He graduated from MGIMO under the USSR Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1975 and from the Diplomatic Academy of the USSR Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1989. He is a member of the National League of Translators and writes industry methodological recommendations — for interpreters and for clients who need to understand how to organize a simultaneous interpreter's work at a venue.

The topics he works with are exactly what is on the agenda of corporate and industry events: economics and management, foreign economic activity, finance, audit and banking, energy, metallurgy and mining, mechanical engineering, law — arbitration, licensing, anti-money laundering — as well as medicine and clinical research, diplomacy, disarmament and foreign policy. On site, it looks calm and seamless: terminology doesn't "drift," figures and wording sound the same as in the original, and participants don't slow down because of the language barrier.

Nikolay lives in Moscow and works directly. He is invited to corporate events with foreign guests, company anniversaries, presentations and New Year's parties where simultaneous interpretation is needed on stage or in the meeting room.
